Success – however you define it – comes from the achievement of significant goals. Focus is crucial for success because it helps us prioritize effectively, work efficiently, make better decisions, maintain consistency, achieve mastery, and ultimately accomplish our goals. By harnessing the power of focus, we can unlock our full potential and maximize our chances of success in all aspects of life.
Don’t let a lack of focus keep you distracted from your most important things. You can do anything, but you can’t do everything. Focus is important because focus is needed to ensure you are not wasting your time on this Earth.
This isn’t a dress rehearsal, this is your life. Your time here is finite and you must choose the things on which you want to focus your efforts. Otherwise, your precious time will be frittered away on unimportant things OR on important things that aren’t your important thing. Focused effort makes the difference.
You can’t do everything – even the important things, so focus on results. Every decision you make about where to use your limited resources is a statement about what you are focusing on. Decide what you really want, then align your actions with your true desire.
The Rule Of Holes is this: If you’re in one, stop digging. If you are not pleased with the results you are getting in your life just now, there is a better way. Use these five actions to break out of your rut.
Are you spending time on the things that are important to you? Or do you rush from task to task, appointment to appointment, and at the end of the day, you’re not really sure what you’ve accomplished? Maybe it’s time to realign your priorities.
“You can have anything you want, but you can’t have everything you want.” ~ Peter McWilliams A big reason why you can’t have everything? You just don’t have time.
You can change beliefs that don’t serve you. Just as beliefs determine your actions, your actions help shape your beliefs. Act as if you believe, and your belief will change.
When you really, really want something, and the desire is strong, you focus on that thing you want. Desire leads to focus. However, the relationship goes both ways. Increasing your focus on a desirable objective makes you want it even more. Focus leads to desire.
The ABCs of effective living? A = Adversity, B = Belief, and C = Consequent feelings. Our Beliefs (B) about an Adversity (A) – NOT the adversity itself – cause our Consequent (C) feelings. [Seligman] It isn’t what happens to us but how we think about what happens to us that determines how we feel. By stepping into the space between stimulus and response, we can choose a more empowering set of beliefs. But first, we have to see that space.

Understanding The Gap
“Between stimulus and response, man has the freedom to choose.” ~ Dr. Stephen Covey, “The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People”
When I first read this statement many years ago, I struggled to understand what it meant. I understood the words, but I didn’t get the concept. It was completely foreign to me. I had become so inured to reacting to whatever I encountered, it never occurred to me that there was any other way to behave. I pondered this idea, discussed it with various friends, and read and re-read that section in Dr. Covey’s book.
